Ian received his Masters degree from the University of London and the Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1998. He is registered as a specialist orthodontist with the General Dental Council.
Ian graduated in dentistry from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa in 1990 and practiced general dentistry in Farnham, Surrey for five years.
He then committed to three year’s full time postgraduate orthodontic training at Guy’s Hospital, Mayday University Hospital and East Surrey Hospital.

Epsom Orthodontic Practice opened first in 1999. Guildford Orthodontics followed in 2004.
Ian is a director of OrthoProgress. OrthoProgress facilitates training days for orthodontic staff and practice principals to combine their resources to progress their practices and share common practice ideas. Under the guise of a director for OrthoProgress and as Practice Principal within his own practices Ian will regularly speak on topics including staff training, IOTN and Patient Comfort.
On a day to day level Ian divides his time equally between the Epsom and Guildford practices.
Ian maintains a close working relationship with other specialists and has treated a large number of cases in combined multi-disciplinary approach. Having treated well over 4,000 orthodontic cases, he is experienced in his field and regularly attends conferences, workshops and lectures to continually expand his knowledge
He has had the privilege of attending an “in office” course in advanced techniques with Damon Appliances with Dr Alan Bagden, a world renowned American clinician using this technique.
Previously Ian taught an orthodontic programme to dental nurses as part of their Certificate in Orthodontic Nursing at Southern Dental Trainers.
Since 2010 Ian has been successfully mentoring his Orthodontic Therapists through the practices, a number of them securing student of their year.
Further to his clinical duties Ian has delivered lectures at the annual conference for the British Orthodontic Society. Topics being; ‘in practice’ Clinical Tips, Utilisation of the Orthodontic Therapist in Clinic and guidance to Training Administration and Reception Teams in Clinical Procedures. The latter greatly assisting in the patient journey.
