Rachel Hodgson BDS 1989 MSc MOrth 1998 FDS RCS
GDC Registration 65005
Rachel began postgraduate specialist orthodontic training at Guy’s Hospital in 1995 alongside Ian Grobler and so has worked in this exciting field for over 16 years. She re-joined Ian at Epsom Orthodontics in 2000 and currently works four days weekly, including some Saturday mornings.
Rachel was awarded a Master of Science degree from the University of London and the Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1998, after completing her three year postgraduate orthodontic training. She is registered as a specialist orthodontist with the General Dental Council.
Rachel had previously qualified in dentistry at Guy’s Hospital, London, with honours in 1989. She subsequently became house officer in Oral Immunology before completing her Vocational Training. Further experience in children’s dentistry was gained as senior house officer at the Eastman Dental Hospital before oral and maxillofacial surgery posts. Rachel has also worked in general dental practice and was awarded the Fellowship in Dental Surgery (in children’s dentistry and orthodontics) from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1994.
After specialisation Rachel worked in specialist orthodontic practice, hospital and community services. She spent four years teaching orthodontics part time at King’s College Hospital, obtaining a Certificate in Teaching. More recent teaching experience has been closer to home as a Trainer for our Orthodontic Therapists.
Rachel is an examiner in Medical Emergencies for the General Dental Council, previously for the International Qualification Examination and more recently for the Overseas Registration Examination (ORE). Rachel is also a member of the British Orthodontic Society.
Rachel loves the challenges of orthodontics and the excellent results which can be achieved in a specialty which is constantly progressing. She has attended the “In Office” course on advanced techniques with the Damon appliance in the USA with Dr Alan Bagden, one of the most respected clinicians using this technique.
Rachel has broad experience in this constantly advancing field, including treatment of multidisciplinary cases. She regularly attends lectures, conferences, and workshops both in the UK and overseas to be able to bring the best of current orthodontic techniques to our patients.
Away from work Rachel’s time is spent with her husband and two young boys. Out of choice she loves to ski or go to the gym, but is more frequently found building lego, swimming or cycling with the boys.
