This involves the cementing (glueing) of a bracket on to the teeth and cannot be removed by the patient. Brackets are specially designed to fit specific teeth to ensure each tooth reaches the correct final position.
The brackets are all joined together with a flexible, specialised wire, which has to bend in order to link all the brackets together. Once interlinked, the wire will gradually return to its original shape, thereby straightening the teeth.
As treatment progresses, thicker wires are used to keep the teeth stable and fine adjustments are then carried out with the use of springs and elastics.
Quad Helix (Fixed Expander)
The Quad Helix is an Orthodontic appliance for the upper teeth that is fitted in the roof of the mouth. It is attached to the permanent molars by two bands and has two or four active helix coils that widen the arch. The brace will help make room for crowded teeth, or correct a posterior cross bite, where the upper arch is too narrow. The Quad Helix is made from Nickel Titanium wire and is primarily used as an interceptive treatment on younger patients.
Lingual Arch (Space Maintainer)
A Lingual Arch is frequently used as a space maintainer for the lower teeth. In such a case a Lingual Arch maintains the molar position. As a space maintainer the Lingual Arch is frequently used in cases where an early loss of the second deciduous molar takes place and the arch prevents the molars from migrating mesially (forward) thus blocking off the eruption space for the permanent premolar teeth. The Lingual Arch is also used in order to maintain the so called “Leeway space”, which is the extra space available in the arch when the second deciduous molar is exfoliated and the second premolar erupts.
- Traditional metal braces, where the wire is tied into the bracket with elastics. Many patients like to customise their braces by choosing coloured elastics.
- Damon Q braces, which is a revolutionary new way of treating patients. The wire linking Damon brackets together is held in place by a sliding mechanism, which allows the teeth to move more freely, quickly and comfortably. These braces are designed to be discreet, comfortable and easy to keep clean and allow far more cases to be treated without any extractions.
- Damon Clear braces are part of the revolutionary Damon System. People may not even realize you are wearing braces. Damon Clear are tie-less, discreet and resistant to staining and discoloration
- Incognito Lingual braces are customized braces placed behind the teeth for a complete aesthetic appearance. No one will know you are wearing braces, unless you tell them.
